COURSE DESCRIPTION
The English I is World Literature where Reading & Writing are like brothers and sisters.
GENERAL COURSE OBJECTIVES
Students will write essays in several formats and modes as well as read in various genres.
Students will interpret, evaluate, and analyze the multiple genres of literature.
Students will work in groups effectively and will further develop their meta-cognition by discussing, assessing, and completing assignments in small or large groups.
MATERIALS NEEDED
Chromebook
Composition notebook or spiral notebook
Black or blue ink pens only
Notebook Paper
- Romeo & Juliet by William Shakespeare
- The Odyssey
- Assigned Summer Novels
- EOC STAAR Booklets
- EVALUATIONS/ASSESSMENTS
- All major assessments vary from presentations to traditional methods.
- Quizzes: on any day without notice.
Re-tests: check grading policy (see Student Handbook). - Online assignments
Google Classroom:
Every student will be required to stay informed via Google Classroom and Outlook
Compositions:
Compositions will count as major assessments. -
Oral Presentations and Projects:
Oral presentations and projects may count as both major test grades or daily grades depending upon the assignment.
Journals & Freewrites:
Students will be required to make journal entries in their spiral or composition notebooks.
Journals and Free writes will count as test grades.
Cell Phones:
Students must submit cell phones during all class assessments.- Students need to keep their cell phones and any other electronic devices in their backpacks/purses on a daily basis. At times, all students will be required to place cell phones on designated cart.
- Charging electronic devices in class is not permissible.
- Missing Coursework:
- Students will be required to handle this during their lunch break or afterschool.
- Students may not make up work over a week late.
